Question 1
A thick walled cylinder has an outer diameter of 200 mm and an inside diameter of 80mm.
If it is pressurised to 120 MPa gauge on the inside, calculate the following:
a) The circumferential stress on the outside layer,
b) The circumferential stress on the inside layer,
c) The longitudinal stress,
d) The circumferential strain on the outside layer,
e) The circumferential strain on the inside layer,
f) The change in the inner diameter,
g) The change in the outer diameter.
Take E = 205GPa
