„(L)aboratorium Brunel University w Egham (...) przekształcono w rodzaj ośrodka
doskonalenia zawodowego dla kierowców. Miejsce stołów laboratoryjnych zajęły symulatory,
a laborantów – ochotnicy. Podzielono ich na grupy odpowiadające liczbie symulatorów. Przed
najtrudniejszym zadaniem stanęła grupa pierwsza. Nie licząc pedałów gazu, hamulca
i sprzęgła, wszystkie urządzenia musieli obsługiwać ręcznie. Ich symulator przypominał
najtańsze auta z lat 60., w których nawet kierunkowskazy nie wyłączały się same.
W najbardziej komfortowej sytuacji byli członkowie piątej grupy, dla których kierowanie
samochodem sprowadzało się do kręcenia kierownicą. Wszystko inne – łącznie
z hamowaniem i przyspieszaniem – samochód robił sam. Każdy z ochotników musiał
pokonać taką samą (wirtualną) trasę i rozwiązać takie same (wizualne) zadania”.
