A cantilever beam is 5 m long and has a point load of 50 kN at the free end. The deflection at the free end is 3mm downwards and the Youngs modulus of elasticity is 205 GPa. The beam has a solid rectangular section with a depth three times the width. Determine
a) The flexural stiffness of the beam.
b) The dimensions of the section
c) Calculate the change in volume of the fuselage when at different pressure of 17 psi.
d) Calculate the change in diameter of the fuselage when at different pressure of 17 psi.
e) A strain gauge is used to measure the strain in the hoop direction when the aircraft is flying. Calculate the difference pressure on the thin walled pressure vessel (fuselage) if the strain gauge reads 3000 microstrain.
