a) A circular hollow shaft has an external diameter of 150 mm and wall thickness of 12 mm. If it transmits 850kW of power at 1500 rpm, calculate:
1. The maximum and minimum shear stress acting on the shaft.
2. The angle of twist over 0.5m given that the material has a shear modulus of 75GPa.
b) What diameter solid shaft of the same material would be required to replace the hollow shaft without exceeding the same maximum stress?
c) What is the significance of the polar second moment of area (J) value?
