History of the City
Czestochowa was founded in the eleventh century. The name derives from the elders of the family, which was Frequent. The first written record dates from the 1220th Czestochowa was given city rights around the year 1370 - 1377 and 1502 the city was given the locations of the Magdeburg Law.
The numerous invasions and wars in the seventeenth century resulted in inhibition of the city. During the second partition of Czestochowa belonged to Prussia, after 1807 years later was incorporated into the Duchy of Warsaw and then to the Congress Kingdom. In 1819 marked the most important route of Czestochowa - Avenue of the Virgin Mary.
During World War I Czestochowa was occupied without walko by German troops and then released at 11.11. 1918.
During World War II Germany 09.03.1939 entered the city by making the so-called year. "bloody Monday" - murdered about 300 people.
Then, during the war in nearby Olsztyn shot about 2,000 people - especially the Polish intelligentsia.
In 1942, the ghetto was created in which there were 48,000 Jews. They were mostly killed by the Nazis during the Holocaust. January 16, 1945 German troops left the city without walko, which was subsequently occupied by the troops of Major. Semyon Chochriakowa.
