I'm using the following definition of the alpha coefficient (from Wiki)
\alpha = \frac{\Delta L}{L}\frac{1}{\Delta T}
where alpha = 12 * 10^(-6) 1/K,
Delta T = 25 - 20 = 5 K
Delta L is the change of this gauge lenght L = 50 mm.
The proportion Delta L / L is itself a relative measurement error.
\frac{\Delta L}{L} = \alpha\cdot\Delta T = 12\cdot 10^{-6}\cdot 5 = 0.00006
An absolute error is the relative one times L:
Absolute error delta L = 0.00006 * 50 = 0.003 mm.
